The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
