Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
