Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior official said the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
